Bundle up and join Ms. Jackie for a brand-new winter adventure! Nature Explorers Camp blends outdoor fun with hands-on nature journaling to help kids connect with the world around them — even in winter.
Each day begins with an outdoor activity where participants use kid-friendly cameras to capture things in nature that spark their curiosity (“I notice…”). Then we’ll head inside to warm up, create nature journal entries, sketch from our photos, ask questions, and do a little group discovery (“I wonder…”).
Daily Themes:
-
Day 1 – Archery & Observation: Learn the basics of archery and explore the school grounds for winter tracks, textures, and wildlife clues.
-
Day 2 – Winter Dune Hike: Take a guided hike through the North Ottawa Dunes to discover how plants and animals adapt to winter.
-
Day 3 – Winter Scavenger Hunt & Shelter Building: Work in teams to complete a nature scavenger hunt and build a mini winter shelter using sticks and natural materials.
Each participant receives their own nature journal to take home at the end of camp.
This program takes place outdoors for the first portion of each day. Please dress for the weather, bring warm gloves, and wear boots suitable for winter walking. All equipment (including cameras and journals) is provided.
Come explore, wonder, create, and experience the magic of winter in Michigan!
