Outdoor Recreation Explorers - Port Sheldon Edition - Summer 2026

Port Sheldon Township is just a short drive from Grand Haven but there are so many beautiful areas to explore. Before school starts again, let's have one more week of adventure and fun soaking up the sun! This program will give kids an opportunity to do just that.

Each day will bring a new adventure, all lead by Ms Jackie Rowland, NORA Outdoor Recreation Coordinator. 

Dates: M-Th August 17 - 20
Times: 10am - 11:30am each day
Locations: 
Monday - Archery @ Port Sheldon Community Park (baseball diamond outfield)
Tuesday - Hiking & Geocaching @ Port Sheldon Natural Area

Wednesday - Fishing @ Sheldon Landing
Thursday - Kayaking Pigeon River/Pigeon Lake (launch from Sheldon Landing)

  • What should I wear?: Start with sunscreen! After that, look at the activity for the day. Most days, comfortable clothes plus good walking shoes are perfect. For kayaking day, wearing a swimsuit or clothes that are quick dry is best.
  • What should I bring?: All equipment is provided for each day including archery equipment and kayaks with life jackets. If you would have your own kayak, you can bring it. We prefer everyone use our bows and arrows for archery because we do not want to risk damaging anyone's personal bow or losing their arrows. A backpack with snacks and a water bottle will be so helpful.
